RestAreasNearMe.org is an independent travel-information service built to help drivers find rest areas, welcome centers, service plazas, and other public roadside facilities across the United States.
Our goal is simple: make it easier to understand what is ahead, in the correct driving direction, before you need to stop.
Why we built it
Rest-area information is often spread across state transportation websites, maps, PDFs, closure notices, and older directory pages. Important details can be difficult to compare quickly—especially on a phone during a trip.
We bring those details into a clearer directory designed around the questions travelers actually ask:
- Is this stop on my side of the highway?
- How far ahead is it?
- Is it currently reported open?
- Which amenities are available?
- When was the information last checked?
- What is the official source?
What makes our approach different
We are building RestAreasNearMe.org around useful data and transparent sourcing, not just a large number of pages.
Where available, a listing may include its highway, direction, mile marker, coordinates, operating status, accessibility information, parking details, restrooms, pet areas, picnic areas, vending, dump stations, charging, and other practical amenities.
We also show source and verification information so visitors can judge how current a detail may be. When official information is incomplete or conflicting, the listing should say so rather than presenting uncertainty as fact.
How our information is created
We organize factual information from public sources such as state departments of transportation, turnpike and transportation authorities, official closure notices, and facility operators. We may also review credible traveler reports and other reliable sources when official information is unavailable or needs clarification.
Our records are improved over time. A “verified” label means that specified information was checked against the cited source on the date shown. It does not mean that our team physically inspected the facility or can guarantee its current condition.

RestAreasNearMe.org is not a government agency and is not affiliated with any state department of transportation, turnpike authority, law-enforcement agency, map provider, or facility operator unless a page explicitly states otherwise.
Official agencies and on-site signs remain the authoritative sources for closures, restrictions, emergencies, and current operating conditions.

Coverage and the level of detail vary by state and facility while we continue validating and expanding the directory.
