RestAreasNearMe.org aims to make roadside information usable by as many people as possible, including people who use keyboards, screen readers, screen magnification, voice input, or other assistive technology.

Our accessibility goal

We are working toward conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA for the main website experience.

This is a goal, not a claim that every page or third-party feature currently meets every criterion. Maps, embedded services, older data, and third-party content may have limitations outside our direct control.

Measures we take

Our design and development process should include:

• Semantic headings and landmarks
• Keyboard-accessible navigation, filters, dialogs, and forms
• Visible focus states
• Sufficient color contrast
• Text alternatives for meaningful images and map information
• Form labels and understandable error messages
• Support for text resizing and responsive layouts
• A useful list-based alternative to map-only information
• Reduced-motion support where animation is used
• Testing with automated tools and representative manual checks

Use the subject Accessibility Feedback. We will review the issue and work toward a reasonable solution. Response and remediation time can vary depending on the problem and the third parties involved.

Third-party content

The site may link to government pages, map providers, navigation apps, and other services we do not control. We welcome reports about barriers in those integrations and will provide an alternative where reasonably possible, but third parties are responsible for their own accessibility.
