Corrections Policy
Last updated: September 18, 2026
Accurate roadside information matters. RestAreasNearMe.org welcomes reports about incorrect locations, closures, directions, amenities, access restrictions, hours, and other material details.
What you can report
Please report information such as:
- A facility that is closed, reopened, seasonal, relocated, or missing
- An incorrect highway, direction, exit, mile marker, address, or coordinate
- A restroom, accessible feature, parking area, dump station, charging point, pet area, or other amenity that is incorrectly listed
- A broken official-source link
- Duplicate listings
- A safety-relevant restriction or access issue
- An image or description that should not appear on the site
How to submit a useful correction
Use Report an update on the relevant rest-area page whenever possible. You may also email info@restareasnearme.org.
Include:
- The facility name and page URL
- The detail you believe is incorrect
- The correct information, if known
- The date you observed or confirmed it
- A link to an official notice, agency page, photo, or other supporting evidence when available
Do not submit sensitive personal information, vehicle registration plates, private conversations, or identifiable images of other people unless you have a lawful reason and their permission.
How we review reports
Submitting a report does not automatically change a listing. We may:
- Check the report against the facility’s current cited source.
- Search for a newer official notice or dataset.
- Compare more than one source when details conflict.
- Contact the reporting person, agency, or operator for clarification.
- Mark the information as a pending community report when it is useful but not yet confirmed.
- Update, remove, or retain the information based on the available evidence.
Safety-relevant reports may be prioritized, but review time varies with the seriousness of the issue and the availability of reliable sources. We do not promise a specific review or response time.
How corrections are displayed
When a material fact changes, we aim to update the listing’s source and verification date. Important status changes may also appear in the facility’s verification or status history.
A verification entry describes what was checked; it does not guarantee that every aspect of the facility was inspected or remains unchanged.
Reporter privacy
Reporter names, email addresses, and private evidence are not displayed publicly unless the person separately and clearly agrees to publication. We may retain contact details long enough to review the report, prevent abuse, document the decision, and meet legal obligations. See our Privacy Policy.
Good-faith reports
Please submit reports honestly and respectfully. We may ignore or remove reports that are knowingly false, abusive, promotional, repetitive, irrelevant, unlawful, or intended to manipulate a listing.
Questions or appeals
If you believe we handled a correction incorrectly, email info@restareasnearme.org with the listing URL, the decision you are questioning, and any additional evidence. We will review the new information when practical, but we cannot guarantee a particular outcome.
