Rest Area Questions
Last updated: October 6, 2026
Answers below describe this directory and general stop types. They do not confirm hours, fees, or amenities for a specific facility. Open the facility page for that record.
Are highway rest areas free?
Public interstate rest areas in the United States are generally free to enter and use. That is a general description of the facility type, not a fee checked for every listing. Toll-road service plazas can include fuel or food that you pay for. If a listing on this site does not show a fee, the fee is unknown.
Are rest areas open 24 hours?
Many public rest areas are open day and night, but this directory does not mark a stop as 24 hours unless that listing stores hours. Unknown hours stay unknown. Do not treat a missing hours field as overnight access.
What is the difference between a rest area and a welcome center?
A rest area is a roadside stop, often with restrooms. A welcome center is a visitor-information stop, often near a state line, and it may also function as a rest area. This directory uses those words when the facility record says so. It does not guess the type from the name of the highway.
How do I find rest areas on my route?
Browse by state or interstate, or use the location search on the homepage after you allow it. Search result URLs are not indexed. For I-95, use the I-95 guide, which only links states this directory actually lists.
Is RestAreasNearMe.org the same as restareasnearme.com?
No. RestAreasNearMe.org is an independent directory. It is not restareasnearme.com, and it is not affiliated with a state department of transportation.
Do you list every US rest area?
This directory currently lists 1125 facilities. States and corridors with no rows are left empty. We do not create city pages or placeholder facilities to fill gaps.
Can I trust amenity labels?
Only when a listing shows the amenity as available from evidence. Unknown stays unknown. Competitor amenity flags are not treated as verified.
